Reimagining the Live Festival Experience

OVERVIEW
The best part of a music festival is experiencing it with your friends… The Arcadia team created several new augmented reality experiences that make it easier to find the performances fans are the most excited about. And, while they have their phones out to capture the excitement, EDC visuals come to life for amazing Snaps.

THE EXPERIENCE
Arcadia and Live Nation joined forces with Insomniac to provide festival-goers with unparalleled opportunities to elevate their experience at EDC. Together, we launched a collection of augmented reality lenses, each meticulously crafted to offer unique and captivating experiences.

AR Compass: The ultimate companion to your EDC experience. A dynamic, intuitive guide that keeps you up-to-date on set times and gets you to your favorite acts with GPS wayfinding.

Friend FindAR: Find your crew. If you and your crew enable location sharing on Snapchat, you’ll be able to pinpoint their direction and distance so that you can see your favorite acts with friends. 

Night Owl: bring the Electric Sky to life. EDC’s iconic Owl will soar overhead, and look true-to-life, thanks to Sky Segmentation, which accurately places it in the open air around you. 

Electric Daisy Lens: grow blooms from the ground around you.  Ground Segmentation ensures that the digital flowers sprout from the floor by your feet.

Design Direction

The EDC festival is known for its vibrant colors that really come to life at night. We choose a color palette of bright pinks, purples and yellows to showcase our intuitive UI. We also created 3d animated versions of the famous EDC owl and daisys that sprung to life right before our eyes.

The Process

We started by creating the complex stage setup at EDC in 3D. Using schematics and visual references, our team meticulously recreated the EDC festival grounds to produce an interactive EDC AR experience.
